It was one of the largest states in Europe, a political, military, and economic power, known as the granary of Europe. The economy thrived thanks to the transport of goods along the Vistula River and exports through Gda\u0144sk, which fostered the growth of towns and crafts.  <\/p>\n<p>The economic boom contributed to the development of culture, marked by Renaissance humanism. Many outstanding artists worked in Poland, such as Nicolaus Copernicus, who proved the heliocentric structure of the Solar System, and poets such as Jan Kochanowski. The Polish Renaissance style gained recognition in architecture, with its most notable achievements including the Sigismund Chapel at Wawel Castle.   <\/p>\n<p>During this period, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth enjoyed a strong international position, and its system of noble democracy distinguished it in Europe.
